About the Mavis Wynne and Jenny Milner Scholarships
The Mavis Wynne Scholarship was created in memory of local resident and business-woman, Mavis Wynne. A staunch advocate for women in business, Mavis was passionate about supporting girls from the Benalla area in their endeavour to acquire an education, and establish meaningful careers.
Mavis was especially inspired to help women wishing to enter traditionally male dominated industries, in part thanks to her daughter's educational aspirations. Mavis’ daughter tragically passed away after suffering from Leukaemia while studying INSERT FIELD, further inspiring Mavis to honour her legacy.
The Mavis Wynne Scholarship now embodies a broader focus, and is open to any female student from the Benalla area wishing to pursue further education at university.
In 2012 a new scholarship was developed in memory of local business-woman Jenny Milner. Jenny was a pharmacist in Benalla and previous Mavis Wynne Scholarship Committee members. Like Mavis, Jenny was an advocate for furthering education and supporting local women.
After Jenny passed away in 2011, the Jenny Milner Scholarship was developed in her memory to support local Year 11 girls as they embark on their final year of secondary study.
Both scholarships are awarded at the Benalla College and FCJ's respective end of year presentation evenings.
Please note scholarship amounts vary year-to-year.
